EAA Young Eagles Online Registration — Enhancements and Fixes Aplenty

With the legacy Young Eagles Day tool officially decommissioned, the Young Eagles office has been working feverishly on supporting and enhancing the new Young Eagles Online Registration system (EAAChapters.org).

The new tool offered a lot of exciting updates when it first launched, such as improved functionality regarding event capacity that prevents overbooking, listing additional chapters, more refined waitlist management, increased efficiency of updating pilot information pre-event, single sign-on with EAA.org, and a more comprehensive flight history for each youth. On the contrary, there has certainly been a period of learning as real-world usage revealed some items needing attention.

Since the official switch from YEDay.org to EAAChapters.org, EAA has been taking feedback from dozens of chapters. Feedback has ranged from bugs found upon the production launch, missed functionality in the initial launch, as well as some “nice-to-have’” functions. Since mid-February, updates have been going out in two-week increments.

Here is a list of enhancements/fixes put into place:

• Firefox/Safari login issues
• Pilot RSVP — edit aircraft and chapter info
• Volunteer search function
• Membership/YPP resync
• Slow system performance (Assign Pilots tab)
• Downloadable QR code
• iPad sync errors
• Waitlist function errors
• Walk-up function errors
• Access to the cancelled list
• Post-event access
• Check-in tab updates (preprinting of certificates, sorting, confirmed column)
• Marking volunteers active/inactive
• Error message while creating an event
• ToolTips - Hover function showing YPP/membership expiration dates
• Custom waiver in parent confirmation email

We are now working on the next set of enhancements and improvements. Those include:

• Updating all email templates
• Updating printing error messages
• Fix pilot flight history on main menu
• Major rework of the Assign Pilots tabs
• Customization of cancel and reschedule email messages
• Update reporting functions and ability to export data as PDFs and Excel files
• Updated pilot labels and flight tickets
• Parent UI/UX enhancements
• Addition of Flying Start, YE Workshops, and YE Build and Fly
• Much more!

There is not a set timeline on this list, but we will likely continue to work in two-week sprints, pushing updates every other Monday.

I want to thank all the Young Eagles volunteers that have been providing feedback. Your input and patience during this transition has been greatly appreciated. Our entire team is committed to supporting this tool and your transition to this new offering. As we continue to develop, I am sure you will see some hiccups along the way. However, we are determined to provide a finished product that meets and exceeds the usability of what you’ve come to expect from an online registration tool.

Most importantly, the updated training videos and user guides are in development. You should expect to see updated training videos released in the near future!
