EAA Submits Comments on FAA BVLOS NPRM

By EAA Staff

EAA submitted formal comments on the notice in the Federal Register requesting public comment on the recent FAA notice of proposed rulemaking, Normalizing Unmanned Aircraft Beyond Visual Line of Sight Operations. EAA’s comments emphasized the need for strong safeguards to protect existing low-altitude operations, particularly around right-of-way rules proposed to give unmanned aircraft (UA) priority over many manned aircraft.

This proposal represents one of the most complex and far-reaching regulatory efforts in recent years, aiming to establish a framework for routine drone operations beyond the pilot’s visual line of sight.

EAA urged the FAA to take the time needed to ensure the final rule does not create new operational or safety risks, notwithstanding considerable pressure from the UAS industry, Congress, and even the White House to complete a rule expediently. EAA fundamentally supports UAS integration done safely and with careful consideration for all operators in the National Airspace System.
