Dan Schwinn
Dan SchwinnDan is the Founder and CEO of Avidyne and principal owner of Autonodyne. Prior to founding Avidyne in 1993, Dan co-founded Shiva Corporation, a global communications equipment manufacturer with sales of $150 million and 500 employees. Dan served as President from 1985 until 1993 and Chairman until 1995. During his tenure at Shiva, the company had the leading share in its markets, went public on NASDAQ, and provided outstanding returns to its investors, reaching a $2.6 billion market capitalization.
Avidyne was founded to bring sophisticated electronic instrumentation to general aviation aircraft, business jets and helicopters. It was the first company to certify and deliver an all-glass electronic cockpit for light general aviation airplanes in 2003. Avidyne is now the #2 avionics supplier to general aviation aircraft owners worldwide. Avidyne is headquartered in Melbourne Florida. Autonodyne was spun out of Avidyne in 2014 to focus on autonomous applications of various types of aircraft, and is now involved in numerous defense-oriented autonomy projects. Autonodyne provides control station software and autonomy behaviors both remotely and on board for a large number of autonomous aircraft. Autonodyne is headquartered in the Seaport district in Boston.
Dan currently owns and flies Cessna 182, 206 and 208 aircraft, as well as a Lake Renegade seaplane. He is currently involved as a flight test pilot on a next generation display for Cirrus aircraft. He is a graduate of MIT, a board member of the General Aviation Manufacturers Association, and a former member of the Visiting Committee on Aeronautics and Astronautics at MIT.
