FAA Solicits Input on V-Band Coupling Availability Ahead of July AD Deadline
FAA Airworthiness Directive (AD) 2023-09-09 imposes a life limitation on all spot-welded V-Band couplings on turbocharged piston aircraft engines. The AD was prompted by multiple catastrophic failures in the field. An interim inspection option for life-limited couplings under the AD expires on July 17, 2025, prompting high demand for replacement parts.
The FAA is soliciting input on replacement parts availability ahead of the July deadline, following initial concerns from the operational community. The information could be used to inform further action, such as alternative means of compliance (AMOCs) or other options to safely limit operational disruptions.
Members with information or experience regarding parts availability can write to OperationalSafety@faa.gov and use “V-Band” in the subject line.
This AD, in addition to listing numerous certified models of aircraft, specifically calls out aircraft with experimental airworthiness certificates in the applicability section.
