SimVenture
July 11- 14, 2024
What is SimVenture?
SimVenture Oshkosh emulates the flight procedures associated with EAA’s AirVenture and allows pilots to fly into Oshkosh with the real Oshkosh air traffic controllers using a flight simulator.
More than 10,000 aircraft flock to Oshkosh, Wisconsin’s Wittman Regional Airport each year for EAA AirVenture. For Oshkosh’s airport to accommodate such an influx of air traffic throughout the week, EAA works closely with the FAA and the National Air Traffic Controllers Association (NATCA) to publish specific VFR arrival and departure procedures that pilots must follow.
These specific VFR procedures are published in a Notice (previously known as the NOTAM) and require pilots to conduct non-standard approaches and maneuvers into and out of the airport while listening to fast-paced air traffic control and flying closer to other aircraft than most pilots have ever flown.
The procedures for PilotEdge’s SimVenture event are nearly identical to EAA’s actual AirVenture event, thus giving pilots an incredibly realistic experience of flying into and out of Oshkosh.
Who Should Attend?
Whether you have never flown to AirVenture or are an AirVenture veteran, the procedures to fly into Oshkosh during AirVenture week are some of the most non-standard that you’ll encounter as a VFR pilot. Since pilots typically only utilize these procedures once a year, everyone can benefit from a refresher. This event will allow pilots to practice their arrival and departure into Oshkosh just 1-2 weeks before AirVenture. Becoming comfortable and familiar with the Notice procedures will build confidence and familiarity, contributing to a safer flight to AirVenture.
To participate in SimVenture this year in person at EAAs Pilot Proficiency Center using the Redbird LD AATD and PilotEdge, click on the link to register for an available time slot during either day.
The Notice
Previously known as the NOTAM, the SimVenture Notice mirrors the AirVenture Notice as closely as possible. Despite the similarities between the actual Notice and PilotEdge’s Notice, all users must download PilotEdge’s SimVenture Notice and be familiar with it before their SimVenture flight. The Notice includes critical procedures that all pilots must follow and many diagrams and pictures to help navigate effectively in EAA’s Redbird Advanced Aviation Training Devices.
Actual Air Traffic Controllers Provided by NATCA
You may notice that the air traffic controllers for PilotEdge’s SimVenture Oshkosh event sound very much like those who work the real AirVenture. That is because they are the actual controllers! PilotEdge is working closely with the National Air Traffic Controllers Association for this event. By having the existing air traffic controllers volunteer for PilotEdge’s SimVenture event, pilots will have a true-to-life experience as they will hear the same fast-paced ATC that is unique to Oshkosh.
Suppose you cannot attend the Pilot Proficiency Center in Oshkosh in person. In that case, you can participate from home using your flight simulator and a two-week free trial of PilotEdge!
