Hands, Mind, and Heart

What started as a handful of passionate enthusiasts has developed into a major force—and a significant component—of the aircraft industry.

Amateur-Built Aircraft & LSA Inspection

EAA has been very successful in protecting the rights of amateur-built aircraft owners for 50 years. We have worked with the FAA to appoint Designated Airworthiness Representatives (DAR) and developed specific training for these volunteers who assist members.

This program ensures and expands the availability of aircraft certification services, improves inspectors’ amateur-built aircraft knowledge and lowers the cost of certification for all builders. EAA makes sure DARs are available in the field by offering scholarships to those who are qualified. In addition, EAA members can receive an inspection by a DAR with fees waived, except for out of pocket expenses.

Not all DAR are authorized to do all types of airworthiness certificates, so a person who needs a certification inspection must find a DAR who is authorized to issue the particular type of certificate desired.
